Canceled Christmas

DarkStar's picture

Except for posting the kids' picture on her blog, I really like what this Mom did....

Saw this on the Today show this morning and Savannah said something about the "poor kids, they're really too young for something so harsh". I disagree....HOWEVER the parents absolutely contributed to their entitlement to begin with so I guess I'm kind of on the fence with this one.

On a radio call in show last year, a gal (20 something) called in and said how she had been acting like a spoiled brat when she was about 13 or 14 after her sister was born. Her parents kept threatening her with "no Christmas" if she didn't shape up. She kept acting like a brat, so Christmas morning rolled around and the only gifts she got was stuff from around the house that her parents had wrapped up for her (coasters, pictures etc) Her baby sister got a GIANT stocking, tons of toys and clothes and this gal basically got nothing.

I guess after a couple of hours, the parents really DID have presents for her that they gave her, but she said she learned her lesson and stopped acting like a spoiled brat.

I thought it was a great story!

Honestly, and I'm going to get killed on here, but I hate Christmas. I wish for the love of Mike that I had never started the Santa Claus bit with the giant spending and tons of shit my kids didn't need.
The thing is when we were still an intact family my 1st husband made good money (we made) good money. We spoiled our kids on Christmas - I admit. Then when we got divorced we couldn't give as much - that's when the ungrateful shits that used to be my wonderful children emerged.
I think this...a kid is not going to die or suffer from not being showered with gifts. Christmas has become such a commercial holiday it's ridiculous.
This year all 4 kids my 2 boys and skgirls are getting $50.00 in a card. I buy them stuff year around...I just spent $200.00 on my YDS wrestling stuff. I just bought SD23 a ton of new shit for GS5...it's like Christmas all the time. Plus I hate shopping and crowds. I tell people not to buy for me because I can not afford to reciprocate and I DON'T need anything. I have all kids of crap I need to get rid of.

I think the blogger was exactly right when she said: "That is where the entitlement comes from. We continue to give our children things even when their behavior doesn’t warrant it, simply because we as parents don’t want to live with the consequences."
