Food situation

As YSD is reverting back to her child picky behavior, it's going to be interesting moving forward. There is no chicken. I managed to buy a whole chicken to roast later this week, but we're eating the last of the other chicken tonight, and stretching it with tofu in a stir fry. After this it's beef and pork. Both of which she has lately stated she doesn't like any longer.

Well honey, this is IT. Welcome to making do with what is available.

Good thing DH does most of the cooking when she's here because I might lose it.

From her bio, she is in Washington. I can only imagine the stores were cleaned out and just barely recovering...

Correct. Poultry is almost non-existent. Same with flour still. Soup running low as are all kinds of stock. I bought more olive oil today. Frozen veggies were back. I basically thought out for at LEAST a week out. The shelves are pretty bare. But lots of veggies and fruit, milk stuff good, but butter running low

Wow. I'm in NY and the shelves are not quite that bad.  There was a run on TP but the stores are limiting it now. Last week the shelves were bare, and I still can't find decent peanut butter, but otherwise, most things I could find.

Oh boy. What are these CODs going to do when they "starve to death" because there's nothing to eat in the house!   This will be a defining moment for this generation of kids and I bet they come out of this moaning about all they lost instead of what they (hopefully) gained in life skills. Resilience and sacrifice go together.  She can go hungry until there's chicken again.  Eye roll cramp

Same here in my piece of the midwest.  Our stores have no chicken or ground beef. I found a couple packages of pork chops and lots of corned beef because of St. Patrick's day. No eggs, no powdered or shelf stable milk, little bread, no rice, few frozen veggies. At least that was the case last time I went, which was a week ago.

The store had 20lb bags of rice today, Costco size. I bought one. Oddly no bread or egg shortages. Beans and canned tomatoes running low too. Ladt week we got two large roasts for slow cooker. Gotta think long term, limit trips is limited exposure.

And skid bitches how the food is so disgusting, send her out to the zombies so she can buy groceries that she likes...

seriously some of the kids today do not understand the concept of a friggin worldwide lockdown and how hrd it is to buy grocery staples. Why? Because they never had to buy groceries in their life and drive to several stores just to find some milk, rice or nappies and baby wipes...

pampering just effs up the kids so much they need such a harsh dose of friggin reality right now

People here in England are still trying to hoard toilet paper.  You now have to stand in line to get into the store and there are employees in the aisles limiting items to a max of 2 or 3.  Thing is there is no actual shortage...it's all brought on by panic buying.  It's ridiculous.

providing grid doesnt blow up.  we lost power for 3 hrs last night but have a standby generator.   Chef bought a frozen turkey breast, turkey sandwiches today...I have always bought flour, baking supplies in bulk in airtight bins for bread making, etc.

Leftover turkey with bones is on the stove making stock over night.

These spoiled brats are going to have to learn to make do.

DH was in Aldi the other day behind an older lady.  She had a few food items and a few non-food items.  She went to pay and didn't have enough...all she had was change in her hand.  So she put back the food items.  DH said he'd pay for the items she'd set aside.  She couldn't thank him enough, she was so grateful.  The check-out lady was in tears.  It was only £4 but you never know if that made the difference of her having a few more meals that week.  So sad.
