So proud of SS7

So proud of SS7!  SS has struggled with reading this and last year a lot, to the point we thought he may be dyslexic.  He has worked really really hard this year, and we read with him over facetime most nights.  Got this text from BM2 today (to DH and I):

"SS7's end of year class party was today. He received a Skittle Award for his “love of reading”. WOW!! After the party and a big hug with 'Mr. Teacher', I met with the reading specialist at the school who SS7 has spent 30 minutes with almost every day since September. She tested him for dyslexia a few weeks back and confirmed a few things for us today:

1) he does NOT have dyslexia as recognized by the state medical definition!

2) he tested average or above average (even superior) in all areas of reading, spelling, phonics, literacy, letter recognition + recall, and number recognition + recall

3) he has grown so much this past year that she doesn’t recommend assistance in the 2nd grade AT ALL!  This is huge!  He will do a baseline assessment at the start of the year but shouldn’t need further support. Continued reading through the summer will be critical and key to keep him on track.

All in this little boy has stretched himself and grown by leaps and bounds. It has been an incredible (and sometimes tough) journey with him and I am so excited to see him continue to grow next year too. Am such a proud mommy today!!!  It takes a village and we are all important parts of it, so kudos to you guys too!"

That's great. It's so nice that you all worked with him and that your contributions are recognized.
