Synopsis: In the film, Streep plays a singer/guitarist who abandons her family for the stage, but has to return home when her daughter (played by Streep’s real-life daughter Mamie Gummer) is left at the alter.
When she drops in on their lives, however, she finds she’s dealing with anger, resentment and estrangement after checking out of the lives of her kids for so long.

I'm seeing this trailer advertised on YouTube and it makes me sick every time I see it. It must be triggering my LSSAD (latent stepmother syndrome anxiety disorder.) Anyway, why does the stepmother have to be portrayed as such a biotch, I just don't see myself as " filling a hole"
And I just can't picture someone like Former's DH calling the Beast out of the blue and saying, "Our daughter was left at the alter, you must come quick and save the day, no one knows a daughter better than the golden uterus" I guess if your BM is a rock star that's appropriate. Ugh, it makes me want to vomit. I love seeing Meryl, but I think I'm going to have to miss this one.

Ew. What a story line. The cultural war on stepmothers is staggering. Meryl, you breaka my heart!

Ok so I'm not the only one who sees the hole in this plot. I hope it has some redeeming message, for Meryl's sake. I don't care that she's in her 60's or that she's playing a rock star, I will love her no matter what. But this story... I just can't get past it.

She's probably playing a character in her late 40's. I think Meryl can easily pull that off.

I just can't get over the message this movie is sending. I believe in forgiveness, but in my world that usually ends with moving-on, not a fake GU, look I'm here now, every one notice me, MOTY party. PUKE!

She can be Stevie Nix or Nancy Wilson or Cyndi Lauper or Annie Lennox or Bonnie Raitt or Cher. Ladies of Rock keep rockin! What she can't be is MOTY with a once a decade pop in.

Looked her up ....She wrote this about the move "I can’t imagine embarking on something like that with my mom. I feel like we would work out a lot of stuff."

She must have some mommy issues. I guess this is a fairy tale happy ending script. Interesting.

That's exactly what it is. She also wrote a script glamorizing teenage pregnancy. (I love the move Juno, but if you see it from the parents point of view it's not a great message either) Lets move forward people, not backwards. I showed the trailer to DH and he started screaming...."Sometimes a girl just needs their mother??? OMG GU alert!!!!! To f*%k her up in the head maybe"

The 80s are here. Wow, the past couple of movies with Meryl Streep have bothered me. From the preview they do show the mother regretting missing her children's lives, they also show the stepmother telling mother how it was. I might see this one, how can I resist seeing Rick Springfield? Who, looked like he had to tell mother how to parent and it wasn't all about her.
