Well first time for everything- I broke my foot, two places!

Out having a wonderfu hiking day w/the dogs on Sunday.  It had recently re-opened after being closed for flooding.  A lot of soft mud/debri/branches etc.

My youngest girl for some reason came running at me full speed from only a few feet away. She was behing me, all 65lbs.  Took me out like a soccer player and the mud being what it was and the roots I heard the nastiest snap/crackle/pop.   I was down on the ground/mud.  SO had to rush dogs back to the car and drive up to me.  I was in horrific pain, i knew it was bad. Couldn't bear to be in car w/foot dangling.  He drove me to the nearest fire station who stabilized me and got the EMT's.  SO then had to come bring dogs home before heading back, we were about 30-40 mins from home.

Xrays taken, horrific pain, but morphine and dalaudid helped temporarily.  Have a horrific tibia and fibula break, everythings shifted.  Came home in splint w/pain meds and slept horribly.  Off to ortho this am (the place was a joke but that's another story-at least the surgeon seemed great).  They re-splinted the mess the ER did, gave me more meds and on elevated rest until Thursday.

Have to have surgery and have plates/screws installed.  In my 44yrs never broke a bone, have had small fractures and bad ankle twisting but this is nightmarish.  At least they are 'sort of clean' and not shattered/shaggy.  He thinks I should make a full recovery.  I have a walker that used to be my dads and between SO, my mom and the boys I'm taken care of.  Sleeping in the recliner though as not chancing ANY moving me w/the dogs-though I'm sure we could get them in kennel part of the night and then I could switch.

BOY oh boy I've never felt pain like this in my life.  Terrified of having plates/screws and surgery now.  I've had so much happen healthwise last few years and now this.

I've got books, my good drugs station (and benadryl for itching and nausea meds) - laptop, gatorade zero, remote, pillow and a sore as* from sitting here in addition to the leg pain LOL.   FML what a circus!

I'm the same way when I am on narcotics - I have to have Benadryl and Phenegren also. I broke my elbow a couple of years ago. It was way, way less involved than your breaks - but I did have two screws put in and they have not given me any problems. I can even have MRI's.

Dang! Wishing you a speedy recovery! I broke my foot in college and it was no fun. My lil brother had to have his knee replaced after the very excited 75 lb work puppers at his job ran head first into him, shattering the thing. I bet the lumber company never expected they'd need workers comp insurance due to that!
