What a wonderful day!

This has nothing to do with yesterday. It is a wonderful day and I am in a really good mood. Many of you will not support this and many of you may have negative comments about it. I ask to please keep those to yourself and just be supportive.

Brought SS home from practice last night. We were talking about me and SO getting married and all that stuff. SS had some very interesting things to say. Her is the convo for the most part.

SS: Can I ask you a question?
Ash: Sure you can ask me a question.
SS: When you and daddy get married you will like really be my mom.
Ash: Yeah Kinda.
SS: Well you know, yeah can I like call you mom all the time now instead of Ash.
Ash: If you want to that is up to you.
SS: Ok. Well you need to help me, can you like correct me every time I do not call you mom. Like you know give me a pat on the butt and say no you call me mom.
Ash: If you want I can correct you. I wont pat you but I can do that if you want.
SS: Yeah, it just makes things easier to just call you mom.........That was weird.
Ash: What was weird?
SS: Asking you that question.
Ash: Yeah I get that but you made me really happy. You know I always told you, you can call me whatever you felt comfortable with and I will be good with that.
SS: Yeah but I want to call you mom.

We go inside tell SO what we talked about. He told SO that he has to start calling me mom and correcting him if he uses my real name. The whole thing made me giggle inside. SS is funny sometimes with the things he comes up with.

Anyway I am super excited and really happy. It feels like I earned something somehow. Like a reward for all the hard work I have been doing and being there and putting in the effort. I know many will say I should nip it in the butt. Might I remind I am the only person in his life that he has ever called mom. I left this up to him and never forced it and honestly had not talked about him calling me that in over a year when he said it the first few times as a way to get my attention. This time he just sees me and wants to acknowledge me as mom.

I love this kid and so proud of him for knowing what he wants, understanding his feelings, and acknowledging them. Just wanted to share.

You let him choose. Kids are smarter than they get credit for. He knows you're being a mom to him.

Congrats. I let mine choose too. BM is a useless POS frankly. But more than that, I decided I wanted them to be comfortable, so as long as it was respectful, it was their call on what they call me.

I think it’s great. Not sure why anyone would tell you to nip it in a butt. It’s not like you forced him to call you mom. Kid chooses it himself.

Very special. My screen blurs a bit. Bless you for being the woman this boy needs to love and be loved by. You're an angel. Thanks for sharing.

That's great! SD9 asked a year or so ago if she could call me mom. I told her not until/unless her dad and I get married, and then it will be her choice if she wants to call me that or not. Her mom is (unfortunately) still in her life, so it didn't seem appropriate when I'm not married to my SO. However, it did feel good that she wanted to! She has slipped up and called me Mom once or twice, my SO and I just look at each other with huge eyes and say, What?! SD then says, oops. lol.

Nice for you that he wants to call you that!
