Well, I DID lose my job

Anne Boleyn's picture

I was right. But they caught me off guard by telling me that my two employees are gone too. The whole team is wiped out and no one knows the details of what we do so the company just screwed itself. Oh well, that's their problem. I have been flooded with calls and emails today. People are in utter shock that this happened. It was very nice to hear from people who think this is the stupidest decision they've ever heard. I feel sorry for the people who will be stuck with the work and who are completely unprepared for it in any way. My system is shut down now!

I am OK. Still in shock a bit but feeling strangely relieved. I am sure reality will set in tomorrow. But I have 34 weeks of severance plus a tiny bonus (that part is BS). So I will be fine. New things to come...

FDH has been great and very supportive.

Thank you all for the kind words and support. It meant a lot to read your messages.

I hope this turns out to be a blessing in disguise for you.

Anne, my DH was dumped from his 15 yr job 2 yrs ago. HE was shell shocked although he knew it was coming. Since then he has landed a much better paying job in the same field and with the added benefit... back in a military setting.

Only good will come of this. Promise. Wink

So Sorry! I hear you on them leaving others holding the bag on what to do. When I got laid off years ago, a superviser had the balls to ask a a co-worker to call me on this custom report...they did not know how to retrieve it. This was a year after I was laid off. I was close friends with the former co-worker. I was cool with. I told my friend...just make sure they know they are only getting this info becasue we are friends. I know my friend did not hesitate to tell them. It was a very rough road but I was also single. I was in a dead end job...I hated to go to work. It was one of the best things that ever happen to me...getting laid off. If you do not mind me asking, what kind of work did you do. Just wondering.

I am sorry that you lost your job, I've been there too. Take the time to enjoy some time off. I'm sure you have lots of contacts to network with, you'll find something much better. Be positive. Smile

Losing my last job was probably one of the best things that ever happened to me, although it made for a hellish few months. I didn't get any severance pay but the huge jump in insurance premiums is what REALLY got me.

Bummer Anne!!!! Sad

I have lost 2 jobs since 2007 and boy, it really sucked. I am so sorry.
I really love my current job so it all worked out, but it was a horribly rocky road!!!

34 weeks is a very nice cushion to have, you will absolutely land on your feet!

But I think you should definitely take a breather the rest of this week! Go get a massage, a mani/pedi, hang out at a coffee shop and read a good book, treat yourself!
