OT - Happy St. Patrick's Day!!

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Does anyone do anything for St. Pat's? Growing up, Mom always made corned beef and cabbage. Just the thought immediately brings back happy memories of the family around the dinner table enjoying the food and the comraderie... along with some warm Finnish flatbread!!

In my mid 20s-early 30s, a bunch of us would make the drive to the big city to bar hop, party, and dance, and drink a green beer (yuck!). Irish Car Bombs were a BIG fave!

For the last 15+ years, I avoid the party scene and let the amateurs enjoy all of the festivity and food coloring.

I am, however, enjoying my coffee with some Bailey's Almond Milk liqueur. Have fun and be safe!

I never was that into it when I was younger. But my ex's birthday was on 3/17. He was very into it (and a drinker). Instead of getting him birthday gifts I would cook a huge corned beef meal for him and whatever friends he invited. Even taking a day off work to do so. I do love the meal...should do it soon again.

Today I'm heading out of town to visit a friend for the weekend. We're to go out for lunch and a drink, shop, and make dinner at her place to avoid the bars!

I love corned beef and have made colcannon a few times. Too much going on this weekend to do a proper dinner.

The weather here is very bad so it's a night in for us. However, I am going to make a Guinness cake and I'll have a glass of the black stuff too. My great grandmother was Irish...! Happy Paddy's Day to one and all!

I shall try to give a link in American measures as they are different to Fairyland ones. The cake is yum yum! I tried to make a white icing to make it look like a frothy head but it didn't quite work! It goes well with the real stuff...!

I make Irish beef stew and we have a Guinness cake for after.  I like to put the green food coloring in everything also just for fun.

The recipe pasted below- goes very well with the liquid kind too, especially when watching Father Ted!

No beer for me today. I'm about to jump in the shower to get ready for a wine tasting. No food coloring!!

Happy Saint Patricks Day to you all !!

No joke I am 1/2 Irish..I dislike Corn Beef, cabbage or anything like that.

Years ago we would attend an Irish Wake at the local Irish pub. Jamed packed with most of the towns people, Irish or not. It was a lot of fun. Now, we will have some beers and thats about it. Too bad its cloudy or we would start a fire and watch the sunset listening to some Irish Music. True story!!

I hate cornbeef and cabbage. YUCK

My family is at the pub. We are going in a little while. Goodluck I would rather start a fire and listen to irish music.

I am descended from Flannagans and O' learys. My Italian husbands birthday is today so we are going out to an Italian restaurant with his family and my aunt and BS 10.

I wore my green today and will incorporate some tonight!

I made corned beef and cabbage today! It's nostalgic for me. My parents are asian immigrants, but we had corned beef and cabbage around St. Paddy's Day every year growing up. Most likely because we were poor and it was cheap at the grocery store lol. I love it. It reminds me of childhood.

I also made irish potatoes for dessert. It's a philly/jersey thing that also takes me back to my childhood.

Sounds delicious!

I love traditions that bring back happy memories from childhood.
