O/T - new Twins and old Grandpa

This is not a good day for me....

Just found out female twin is downs, this is the second fur baby I have with this problem, a very tough 2 years ahead for me, my previous one lived a long happy naughty life,

Why oh why do I always pick the runt of the liter, they look at me and it's love instantly.

Male twin wants nothing to do with me, he's SO's shadow , SO who did not even want to have new pups.... well I can see why they fell in love with one another, both grumpy old grunting men, yes Male Twin is exactly like SO, just in fur baby mode, .... and very protective of his little sister (who by the way decided Deigma is her love of life) All I am to the twins - meal ticket and cleaner....

Then SO has this Old Grandpa dog with exceptional age, he simply was not himself last night, where he eats everything that moves and behaves like a puppy at age 17, (Lab) he did not want to eat last night, took him to the vet as well today, kidney failure, it's time to help him through the gates of doggy heaven, or we can pay a fortune to pro long his life with 3-6 months.... 3 years ago, we had to make the call due to his arthritis, and I said, pro long, that was 3 years, already costed me a fortune in arthritis meds, SO is broken, he says pro long, I say NO... it's time, you had time to say good bey, but I'm not making that call, you have to, I'm simply not going to take him EOW to the vet to flush toxins from his body... I'm tired of loading and off loading that 70 pound fat ass with his drawl... I made it clear if it was me, I would've said good bey , I hate animals suffering... SO will let me know...

Acra, bless your heart and bless those fur babes :)...love that "grandpa" had such a long life!

I got my first set of twins 14 years ago and one sister is still with me doing great...the day I brought them home, they looked at me all hateful and ran away and hid behind the shop. My girls LOL Smile

Love all my girls and sending you the best on your new additions Smile

That's a long life a lab!!! It was his time... With all the medical issues his quality of life was going downhill... I know that one would have been a hard call if he hadn't passed on his own.. I remember my boxer getting stage four cancer... I could have prolonged it... They told me it would be a few months and he would be miserable the whole time Sad It's hard, but watching them suffer would be even worse!

I love fur babies! They add to life! Congrats on your twins!!!

So sorry to hear this. It is so hard. I'm glad you didn't have to make that hard decision. Hugs to you.

I'm sorry to hear that Acra, it's so horrible losing our friends that don't judge us (that's how i think of pets). I didn't even know they could have downs, I was very surprised.

Thank you ladies, SO is finally seeing light and agrees it's for the best now, he's such a wimp, we had the funeral last night with a couple off beers and the Twins are making up for the sadness, I hate people picking up puppies and carrying them around and cuddling them, hell they need to be independent one day, but last night I let it go.

SO is now so in love with the twins, Female twin behaved very well, she did not get over excited with a fit that followed, changed her food as well to pro-biotic pallets and she's not gulping anymore, was difficult separating them meal time, but SO took his other Grumpy old man outside to eat, Female took half an hour to finish her dinner...

I'm very happy, they both are potty trained, if there's no sand box in the house they run to the door and we let them out, yes they know exactly which lawn is the closest in SO's house, my house they have free roaming from inside to outside...

@Dawn - that decision is never hard for me to make, I'm called being cold and not an animal lover, but I simply can not stand any animal suffering,
thus I make the call easy, you see it in their eyes.. if the eyes are not twinkling and the tail is not wagging, then it's time...I would've been a very bad Vet, they are not allowed to tell you what to do they can only give recommendation, I simply would've done it if the animal was suffering.
