...a...a...rabbit!

Cover1W's picture

DH says at dinner, "Can I ask you about something, with no judgement?"

Me, hesitantly and instantly with judgement, "Uh-huh..."

DH, "I've been wondering if we should get a rabbit for 'the girls.' It would be a good birthday gift for SD11." (who turns 11 next week)

Me, instantly thinking he means "the girls" = SD11 and her TF (troublesome friend)!

Me, "No. No way. Uh-uh, no."

DH, "But why?"

Learning Moment

So last weekend I discovered the door to the pantry was broken, obviously forced off the rails due go the broken pieces I found.
At the time DH was as usual "so what no biggie" as I was explaining WHY it IS a big deal. SD11 and her friend had been messing around in the kitchen and I had told them to calm down and get out...I had errands to do and did not follow up.

DH, to my knowledge, did nothing with SDs. He paid for a nice curtain is all. I took down door, discarded it, fixed the door frame, painted, etc.

Hearing Loss

DH received in the mail a notice from SD13's school that she failed a second hearing test (one done three months ago then repeated recently).

1) she could be damaging hearing with headphone volume too loud or
2) vitamin deficiency, or
3) she thinks the test is dumb so didnt pay attention when it was given.

Sitting back and waiting to see what DH does. He already asked me what i think, said I'm not a doctor and it sounds like you better get her in for an appointment with one.

BM and $

I've mentioned before that BM, who has been reasonable overall, said to DH this past year that since we were married she shouldn't have to pay so much for SDs (clothes and other necessities) because now he has two incomes. In a nutshell.

Of course this doesn't mean she's asking for a reduction in what DH pays her for CS.

And DH told her no to her argument.

It's Not Over?

Lord help me. DH just now told me SDs are not returning to BM tomorrow morning but Thursday afternoon. You know how a little bubble of relief is put around you waiting to come home to a quiet and clean house and then it bursts? Sigh. I told DH that if the schedule changes please let me know. Jeez. He did say he's planning on taking SDs somewhere and I suspect it's skiing (they have no clothes for it so have fun shopping for one time use winter athletic wear DH). He's afraid to tell me this I think, as it's a total Disney Dad move to placate SD13s incessant asking to do it.

Holiday Stupids

Things going well until...DH, while SDs and I are making a final batch of cookies, brings up all this chocolate he bought yesterday. I am abandoned. BTW: there is so much chocolate for tomorrow I can't even tell you. I'm like WTF? There's a plate of cookies being ignored now. In fact I realize NO ONE is eating any of the cookies I've made.

Peace and Quiet for three nights....

Phew. Sd13's party is over and out!
Friday she and I made her cake together even though I wasn't feeling great. Then yesterday we made fondant and she decorated it with a little help (and I had her take the rest of the frosting to BMs with her today, get it out of my house!). I stuck to my plan of only helping with cake and cocoa. By the evening I wasn't feeling well at all (so no wine). I made light conversations but avoided most parents at drop offs. DH was good about it all too.

It's all about ME!

OMG.

SD12 is 13 today.
She was ALLLLLLL up in everyone's rear about it yesterday.

First thing she said when I walked into the house (late getting home) was, "Cover! You're home! It's my birthday tomorrow!" I had to literally turn away as I shut the front door (nope, she didn't even wait for that to happen...) to refrain from unleashing expletives. And said, dripping with sarcasm, "Yeah, SD....I KNOW."

Yep Cover out!

So DH and I had plans to meet up at the end of my office holiday party (employees only) then go out and get his shopping done because I'm the only one who knows what SDs want. Then go out to dinner. He cancelled. Because of work. Which is fine. Except he needs to work b/c he spent half the day shuttling SD10 around and going to grocery store (for beer and chocolates from what
I can tell). And kitchen was a mess when I got home and dinner hadn't even been started. If I hadn't been hungry I wouldn't have cooked but it's just as easy to make spaghetti for one as it is for four.
