Update on DH losing his job and Nstb2

DH talked to his NEW boss and moved up his start date. He starts next week. So we only will be collecting 1 week of unemployment (Don't freak out about us being money hungry, every cent will be going toward bills and I have the #15/100 most energy efficient home in my area). To explain a few things: Unemployment is federally funded (says so right on the application), companies don't pay for unemployment, and you can fight a company saying they fired you "with cause". Trust me, my mother got 2 years of it because she was fired for "Poor Customer Service" on a day she had 6 clients who refused to do business with anyone else.

We heard from Nstb2's caseworker (CW) today. He visited BMIL and SIL's house this morning. Nstb2 ANSWERED THE DOOR :jawdrop: because SIL couldn't grab him in time. That explains how he "got out and fell off the porch" a few months back. SIL told me (she still doesn't know I'm the one who called and I'm keeping it that way!!) that she wasn't planning to answer the door because she knew the guy was from CPS. :O Anyway, CW said that the house was filthy enough outside that he didn't want to go inside (HE didn't want to get fleas) and he gave them until tomorrow at noon to complete a list. List included: Take dog to vet to be treated for fleas, bomb the house for fleas, clean the house, mow the lawn, and install child safety equipment. BMIL was scrubbing mildew build up in their bathroom when DH stopped by.

He then intends to return without notice a few times over the next month. He doesn't expect them to maintain the house. He asked to come inspect my house to see if he could move N here. I told him to feel free.
SIL decided to bump her next trip with her boyfriend from 5 days to 10 days. Woman has no shame.

"Unemployment is federally funded (says so right on the application), companies don't pay for unemployment.."

Not true. Funds are distributed by the federal/state government, but employers are the ones who provide nearly all of those funds. An employer must pay FUTA, the federal unemployment tax, and SUTA, the state unemployment tax. FUTA is at a rate of 6.2% of the first $7,000 that each employee makes in the year, and the SUTA rate varies by state. Each unemployment claim can raise the SUTA rate for the company, causing them to have to pay in more. This is why companies will fight unemployment claims and/or try and get people out by "firing" them.

^^^THIS^^^ But even so, you are within your right to collect. I don't have a problem with someone collecting unemployment for one week or even a few months, as long as they're actively trying to find work.

Oh yeah, glad your DH was able to move up the date he starts his new job.

Companies do pay for it, but he was dismissed for a stupid reason, feel free to collect and do not justify that to anyone....

I believe in my state there is a waiting period. You have to be employed for a week or maybe two before you can start to collect. But I agree, if he qualifies go for it and I'm glad he was able to move up his new start date.
