And my answer is yes, it covered the world.

Is there a maybe for this?

I say that because in a lot of civilizations, an epic flood is depicted in either their religions or legends, so it leads me to believe that a large flood/tsunami was possible. Result of a small asteroid hitting the ocean maybe?

Or human beings are highly afraid of the ocean, with good reason.

My guess is yes and it covered the world. I go by the pictures and I have never been able to understand what I have read in the bible.

You would be surprised at how many classes have stuff like this nowadays.

I was in English 101, in college, and my teacher told us that ever single story in the textbook we would read was a direct reference to the bible. Even Cool Hand Luke (that old movie?) was a parallel to the bible. How Luke was Jesus and the chain gang he was a part of was like the disciples..

I got in very much trouble in the class, to say the least.

Yes, I believe it was more or less global. Scientists have found indications that water covered area of the earth for some period of time that were no where near water is (fish, plant life, and shells) - some have found large areas that were in foothills. Also, many ancient societies have a flood story/legend/myth that the world was covered in water...maybe because so many people from around the world have a similar story in a time where communication with other societies was so difficult, there may be truth?

I believe the answer to both questions is yes. That is not based on what my faith tells me. That's based on a gut feeling I have.

Thank you for your posts! I haven't pulled out my Bible for reading in a long time and will do so tonight. Thank you for inspiring me to do so.

Okay, if I'm counting right that's 4 no 7 yes 1 maybe and 2 that I didn't quite understand if it was a yes or no Blum 3

It's for my Women's Bible Study. Part of the assignment was to poll 10 other people on their beliefs on the flood. Thank you very much ladies. Smile

For those who are curious, I believe in a literal translation of the Bible.

Yes.

I believe it happened but in a scientific, geological way and not in the biblical way.

In historical times, they didn't have the scientific knowledge we have today. Their only way of thinking in things they couldn't explain was 'God' b/c that is all they knew at that time.

So everyone here who said yes also believes Noah built a big ol' boat and 2 of EVERY ANIMAL was on it? Is that what we are answering here?

Yes, however I think the Hebrews borrowed it from an older myth: the epic of Gilgamesh.
Likely regional.
