Fathers Day - SD Update

Its Fathers Day here (in New Zealand) on Sunday, and for the first time in years DH will have all 5 of his brood here with him on Fathers Day (from Fri nite until about 2pm Sun).

He is a devoted dad (despite what the BM's tell the skids), and a hard working husband, and he deserves to be treated well and recognised on Fathers Day. I know it would mean the world to him. I also know the BM's won't have bothered to help the skids make any cards or presents for their Dad.

I'm thinking along the lines of hand made (or hand picked) cards with messages from each of the skids, then going out for breakfast (I'm sorry, I just can't face cooking with all the kids in the kitchen). Then maybe a mystery family day out (maybe the zoo?), rather than a present he will never use. I'll take the camera and take lots of pictures for him.

Can anyone else offer any budget conscious idea's? Remember it's not a 'gift' that will mean anything to him. It's the rare opportunity to be making memories with his children.

let them eat cake......

This was something fun that we did w/ our skids/kids when we had them all together, bake a cake together.....then enjoy it after dinner. It is a $$ friendly idea , and alot of fun if you all get into it. It will make for great pictures as well."~waiting on the world to change~"

photo collage

What I did for my hubby this is year is go out and get one of those photo collage frames with a mat. I put photos of the kids and him with the kids in it and then let each kid decorate a piece of the mat. He could even be involved with picking out photos with the kids too- that might make some good memories.

Kids had fun with it, he loves looking at it in his office and it cost less than $20

i really like both ideas

maybe add pizza making?? like everyone can make their own individual pizza but u would all be doing it together?

Last year for

father's day, I made DH a scrapbook with each page dedicated to each one of his children. He loved it, and cries (shh...dont tell anyone) every time he reads it. I put pics on each page of them when they were babies up til now. I like the collage idea too.

I like

the collage and scrapbook ideas, but 1. BM won't allow him any baby photos and 2. I haven't got time to do them before Sunday.

Maybe I could use the photos I take on Sunday, and get the kids all making a collage/scrapbook when they come back next time.

Yeehaa, two weekends with one stone!

It's true..

Our son was at Boyscout Camp and our Daughter was at the Beach and SD sent him a text (and a card that read something to the affect of "i'm just like you" Whatever) So we spent the day at the cabin just the two of us... Was great! The card I gave him along with the grill, both kids signed and decorated on it.

BTDT

I bought him a BBQ the size of a small vehicle for Xmas. I'll put some photos on my MySpace page so you can see him using it for the first time. It's sad how excited he is.

For blokes in Australia and NZ, its all about the SIZE of your BBQ...

Hiking somewhere?

You have to pay for gas, but is there anything good close? then you have a little mini vacation, some natural beauty, and reach a goal together. Bring good snacks and sing in the car!! Pictures all day!!! I'm glad he gets to see them all together!

Like it.

I do have to keep it close to home because at 2pm Sunday DH has to start the 5 hour round trip to deposit them all on their mothers doorsteps.

Theres lots of outdoor stuff to do and see near us. I'll check the weather reports.

SD14 Update

DH is in hour 2 of the 5 hour round trip to pick up the SKIDS.

He has just called me to tell me that SD14 has just called him to say she isn't coming this weekend because she has a 'thing' that she has to do at her school. She not really sure what time or what day, but the 'thing' is important.

Definitely more important than seeing her Dad and making him feel loved on Fathers Day I guess.

I feel so angry and hurt for him. He is backing SD and saying its her schools fault for scheduling something that conflicts with Fathers Day.

Oh please.

bellacita's picture

boy theyre so naive, eh?

schools dont schedule important "must attend" stuff on holidays like that. but im sure its easier to believe that than the truth that his daughter doesnt care about fathers day. how sad. hugs to him

I bought DH

A Buck Knife for fathers day. My DH is really outdoorsy and like a big kid loves to fish and hunt. So anything out of the "Bass Pro Shop" he loves.

I hate cooking Karma. I only have a kitchen because it came with the house. Pots and pans are used by me only for his head Smiling
