Long time no vent continues....

i guess i'm on a roll....A couple of months ago we had an outragous electricity bill. We knew the high bills have been partly because of the poor insulation value of our windows. After getting a quote for double paned (ka-ching) we opted to upgrade our blinds instead. We have a number of arched windows and the current blinds start below the arch so lot of sunlight comes in the rooms through the top arches. We are having to order custom arches and they are taking forever.

Anyway I come in one day and DH has taken both comfortors off of the futon+bunk bed in my BS18's room and thumb tacked them over the two arched windows in the upstairs game room...leaving only sheets on my son's futon and bunk. Ok, I guess my son doesn't need covers. Tacking 'curtains' I know and nothing I would consider doing myself, but I don't want to hear anymore about the electricity bill from DH so have lived with these temporary make-shift curtains. BS18 hasn't complained but has taken down one of the comfortors a couple of times when he's been over to use. DH always re-hangs it after BS18 leaves.

The arched blinds are taking forever to come in and today when I went up to the gameroom before work this morning, in the frustrated mood I'm already in, seeing my son's comforters still hanging over the windows really pissed me off again. So I took them down, put them back on my son's futon and bed. Then I hung SD10's spare comforter and throw blanket from her room over the gameroom windows. Equal time I'm thinking Smiling Needless to say DH calls me at work after he got home this afternoon just livid. I am so sick of the double standard...grrr!!!

I'm about ready to swap the queen-size bed in SD10's room, which was my own bed prior to our marriage, with the futon that is in my son's room too. SD10 has slept in her room and on that bed only a handful of times since we married and bought the house 2 years ago. She perfers to sleep on the gameroom sofa. In the meantime my 180+ lb BS18 sleeps on a sagging Ikea futon when he is over. I mentioned this to DH months ago and he said no, that SD10 was going to start sleeping in her room again...hasn't happened once since that conversation.

Redi Shades

Begin,

We had the same problem and went with an inexpensive option as a long term temp fix for the fan shaped shades for an arched window. As you indicated, it takes for ever to get custom shades for arched windows and they are very spendy.

RediShade makes a paper shade that can be either hung vertically or fan'd to fit an arch.

If you are in the US you should be able to pick them up at HomeDepot or Lowe's. They come in a variety of sizes and can be cut to fit odd window sizes.

Just measure the radius of the arch, cut the shade to the length of the radius and fan it around the arch. They look good and match either white or off white blinds/shades very well. From the outside you cannot tell that they are paper.

As far as equity between your B-kids and Skids. Good luck.

Best regards,
