I ready to pull out all of the stops on this one. I just picked up ss after his 2 week visit with his mother. She came to the door in only a bath towel but I digress. The real issue is the kitten that Bm got from my brother in the beginning of June.
Ss said that Bm still hasn't taken it to the vet to get shots, wormed or anything. He said that he wishes that it would die because it is being so abused!! I am very upset. Ss went on to say that it is being kicked, punched, and thrown by the neck. He says that it isn't fed every day and that his 4 yr old sister puts its food in its water so it can't drink.
I'm prepared to call every animal protection agency in the area. I will also call Bm's landlord because I don't think he knows they have a cat. I would even be prepared to take the cat in my own home, after I took it to the vet. I told Dh that he should call Bm and tell her what ss has told us and that she needs to do something immediately or he won't be able to stop Dawn(me) from making these calls.

Call the animal protection agencies, and make sure BM is prosecuted for this poor kitten's abuse. People like this don't deserve to have animals, let alone children. This makes me so angry!

the kicking, punching and throwing is being done by Bm's live in ex and their 4 yr old. Bm is doing nothing. Which means not taking it for its shots or stopping the 4 yr old and showing her the proper treatment of a pet. Of course ss might not be telling me if Bm is physically abusing the cat because he knows that I'm serious and WILL do what I have to do to protect that cat. So, he might be trying to protect Bm.

I think you should come over to my house and we can plan a rescue. You should probably wear camo that looks like clutter. You know like take out containers, water bottles, candy wrappers, boxes, etc. Then we will blend right in at Bm's house. We can get in, get the cat and get out.

The mission is on hold. Finally, because of all of the pressure we were putting on Bm, she decided to take the kitten to the vet. We don't know exactly what they had done to it but at least it was seen by a professional that can tell Bm what she should be doing and if the kitten needs any medication, etc. Hopefully, at least it will get healthy now. Plus, the vet would be able to tell if it was injured and hopefully address that.
But, be prepared, you'll be on call if I hear from ss that the kitten is being abused any further. I will not hesitate to go get it!!

of course. She is also now trying to say that it isn't as bad as ss says and that ss is abusing it too!!!
I had ss try to call his mom but she's wasn't answering. Then she finally answered and told him that the word "abuse" was too strong for him to use and that she didn't have time to talk to him and would call him back. She's probably trying to figure out what to do next.

that is the abuse continues that we are going to take the cat. So I'm sure Bm is flying around her house trying to figure out what to do.
I have the form pulled up for the abuse report on the local humane society website. They will at least investigate but this is something that Bm can hide. She can hurry up and take it to the vet(which I would be glad if that happened) and then when the investigator got there, they would deny abuse.
I told ss that the investigator would probably want to talk to him.
That is the only reason I'm hesitating at the moment, is for ss's sake.

I don't know the logisitics/setup or anything else in your stepson's life, but how about this for an idea?
Have your stepson say he "forgot" somthing at his BMs house- then when he goes in to get it (whatever 'it' is) he can go in and rescue the poor animal right then and there. He doesn't even have to say anything, just take it under his shirt. They'd probably not even realize the kitten was gone until he was long gone and he can just play dumb. Drastic times call for drastic measures! My heart is breaking for this helpless kitten.
He's 12, right? And he's obviously upset by this whole thing! He'd probably feel good about saving the kitten from those monsters.

I can only IMAGINE how my horrible step monsters treat their pets. I've caught SD stb 10 kicking/chasing my cats and I caught SS 5 1/2 doing the same!
I told something like that
to ss when he started telling me the story in the car and he said that he would get grounded for life. I said that I didn't care because it is the life of a kitten we're talking about here. Besides he could just stay at our house if his mom was going to be that way. He's here most of the time anyway.
In other words, I don't think he would do it.
