Child abadonement?

If BM left town to finish school and has not returned on the date that she was supposed to or spoke to us about when she is coming back to the are is this considered abandonment?

Really it matters in what way you're speaking. Ten minutes in a hail store might be abandoned. Do you mean for adoption or custody? That will take years and you need a attorney to help. Even if the father gets custody because she's gone she can always come back and successfully get visitation and with a good excuse even custody if they're young enough.

Lots of variables here. I'd suggest you see an attorney - most will give a free initial consultation to see if you've got a case. But beware most will say yes you got a case just to generate money. I.e. they lie.

Nope.
I've never heard of anything less than a year of absolutely zero contact as being abandonment.
