I looked up what the Bible had to say about disrespect from Children.

Jawdropping! Oh, SK are jerks but lets do the Christian thing...

I felt confussed with this and so I was curious and did a little research on the Christian giving thing for disrespectful children, Good thing these laws cannot aplye now as their are new laws..but it just goes to show that disrespect is not and should not be tolerated, and if they act disrespectful they deserve nothing but what they give " which is....Nothing".

And here we stress over what to do and what not to do for Christmas for them, Their gift for their selfish behavior and disrespect is " They get to live" !!!

What the Bible says about Children

Children who refuse to obey their parents must be executed.

If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them: Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place; And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard. And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear. -- Deuteronomy 21:18-21

He that smiteth his father, or his mother, shall be surely put to death. -- Exodus 21:15

He that curseth his father, or his mother, shall surely be put to death. -- Exodus 21:17

Children who mock their parents will have their eyes plucked out by ravens and eaten by eagles.

The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it. -- Proverbs 30:17

But the child isn't committing a sin if the father's voice is never heard. Additionally, stepmothers are technically not parents. So with no guidance, the children don't have anything to follow. They make up their own rules.

I like the passage about spare the rod and spoil the child. Figuratively speaking, this seems to be the crux of many of our issues. Parents don't parent.

just been complaining to MIL how DH doesnt parent them skids so they think they can do what ever they want and get away with it...

right at that moment the pit bull pup jumped up on her and I growled at puppy in a big loud voice - as you would. - she did it again and so I smacked puppy....I then said - I dont think DH eva disciplined his children...so no wonder they are so unruly and delinquent....my dog would be the same if I let her jump up on people and do what ever she wants....

'some parents really bring their children up'; others let them down!

Yeah, the rules were pretty harsh then. Glad they are not that way now...or am I? Just kidding....maybe. Eye-wink

It is important to understand that when they say "children obey" they are talking about minor children. This does not apply to adult children.

No matter what their age though, children are to HONOR their parents. This doesn't mean they have to agree with everything their parents do or want, but the children are called to honor them in ways that are not disrespectful.

You can honor a parent in many different ways, even if you aren't in regular contact with them. Sending them birthday cards, holiday cards, etc... making sure their needs are being taken care of if they are elderly, or in financial hardship.

I have mentioned before that we live in a large university town, and often get to speak with people from other countries. They are often amazed at how disrespectful children are here in America to their parents and adults.

One thing we found very interesting was that still to this day in certain countries, if a son or daughter said "I want my inheritance now" (as in the story of the prodigal son), the father would kill the son or daughter for saying this! By saying "I want my inheritance now" they are in essence saying "I wish you were dead." Shocked

There is a real lack of respect in this culture for parents, and adults in general. Everything seems to be geared towards pleasing the "young people". Media, pop culture, games, movies, cloth styles, etc....

Not just parents were to be respected either. Their elders IN GENERAL were. 2 Kings 2:23-25 speaks of two boys mocking elderly Elisha and ended up getting eaten by bears.

I like the Bible. Eye-wink

The only thing these biodads should feel guilty about is the fact that they didn't wear a condom.

Yeah isn't the bible cool!? I love all the "smiyting"! I once asked a very wise priest advice about my own Step dad- he's driven him and my mom into bankruptcy twice and they teeter on the brink most of the time;doesn't hold down a job;keeps my mom from her family, etc etc. Father P. said "you don't have to love him, you don't have to like him, but you must treat him in a Christian and respectful manner because he's your mother's husband".

My favorite is "Children are to be seen, not heard".... My steps have been raised in religion. Their great grandmother is a preacher. Their Mother refuses to allow the children to attend church with us... Sad Sad Sad...

But All 4 of my steps know the 10 commandments like the back of their hands and most of the time they follow the religious aspect of the way we live our lives. I have learned more about the bible in the last 5 years then I did as a child, I guess I was ready to listen.

Well by our laws in our country it says they become accountable at age 18 ( as mentioned above)..in the Bible it says:

Leviticus 27:3-5 suggests that a person ceases to be considered a child/young person at the age of 20.

The whole disrespect thing towards BP and SP just gets me, exspecially when you been a trying SP ;/

Its not even so much trying be like Bm or BD..its just saying
" Hey, I am a adult and you need to respect me,"
I hate the fact they feel they can treat SP like trash, even treat the BP parent like trash and then when things come around through out the year they want you to remember them?

If they don't bother with you all year long except when it concerns a certain day of the year that would relate to them..then dont bother at all.

and if they cant be respectful and except who ther BP is with then dont come around at all until they see its not their choice and they need to stop playing " hitler".

I saved a life today...ask me how HAHAHAHAHAHA !!!!!

All humans deserve to be

All humans deserve to be treated with respect. There seems to be an assumption that because we marry men with kids, that we relinquish those expectations or surrender them. How many have heard from their stepchildren that respect toward you needs to be earned? This is an opportunistic spin on the two different twists of the word "respect". I don't care if my SD's respect me, as in admiring a trait that I have. What they'd like everyone to believe is that they aren't obligated to treat the SM with respect until they feel the SM has earned it. None of us should have to do squat to have kids treat us with respect. I work with kids. The ones who have been raised with these principles just know this. The ones who are disrespectful generally are jerks.

I so agree Stepaside, Why should anyone have to prove anything to any SK for their respect? We are the adults and it should be just a given really, They dont exspect the law officals or people of higher authority to EARN ther respect, Its commone sense, and commone sense should be the same with ANY adult.
Its all selective crap...the whole " Prove yourself, your not worthy addittude".
Its all a gimmic and pure manipulation to try and control people and feelings, My BF BS19 tells his dad he has no respect for , and its because I dont let myself be runned by him " really,"
I look at it as...if you CANT and DONT respect me or your BF then theres the door " Leave"...simple!
No one is begging for any SK to stay or be around when they act this way, I dont and would not tolerate it from my BS19 I dang sure wont tolerate it from any SK Jawdropping!

I saved a life today...ask me how HAHAHAHAHAHA !!!!!
