As many of you no doubt noticed, the Step Talk website was down for a good portion of today. Well, our network provider suffered a prolonged power outage today. The power outage was long enough to drain the new uninterruptable power supply (UPS) that we installed just last weekend (we were lucky there)!
Long story short, the UPS properly shut down the server but when the power came back on and the server powered up we found out that one of the main hard drives was quickly failing.
After a [not so] quick run to the local technology store and several hours of transferring data to the new hard drive, your favorite social site is back up and running!
We need to desperately replace the current server with a more reliable one. We're working on trying to find one that we can afford. Hopefully we'll have better hardware in place by next week (cross your fingers).
We're very sorry for any inconvenience this has caused anyone. We're doing the best we can with what we have. Thanks for your understanding.
