Laundry learning

Cover1W's picture

SD11 will start learning next weekend. Piles of laundry, sheets, towels, clothes, overflowing her laundry basket. First time this has happened.
Don't mind running her things within reason but holy mother I don't even have that much after a full week let alone three days...

Oh yes. I have to tread carefully when teaching SDs life skills. DP doesn't like this idea (chores = horrifying) so I have to do it slowly.

I am the SM after all. I cannot teach or discipline so I do it sometimes verrrrry subtle.

Yes I've tried that tactic with SD11 and her habit of leaving her clothes on the floor to get walked over. She doesn't care about keeping things nice, just about having specific things available when she wants them. Which is also why I don't buy her clothes any longer.
I'll have to use the tactic of logic, this much stuff is your responsibility and she likes hearing about learning to be independent when she's got her own apartment.

I'd just settle for the clothes being in the laundry basket!

I do the laundry in our home...not because I think the skids can't, but I do it on days they aren't here usually. I HATE having dirty clothes sit around. However, I am currently refusing to wash anything that doesn't make it to the laundry basket. That includes DH's things too since he has a habit of leaving socks where they fall. He is doing better. The skids OTOH, well, they may be going without pants or socks if they don't get it in gear.

That's how I started it.
DP had no laundry baskets. Clothes were just thrown everywhere.
Laundry baskets were bought in agreement with DP that I would do most laundry (I like doing it). Caveat is that any clothing not in baskets is ignored. Even right next to basket.
SD9 was great from the start. The other two not so much but whatever. If they really want it washed they need to use the basket. No special service.
