SS quoting Freud

Here we go again… last week youngest SS quoted Freud (the ID & the ego blah blah). BM (back in her day) went to college for early childhood development with a minor in psychology I believe. Her father was abusive when sober, then turned into a happy loving drunk. That must have been an emotional roller coaster; so it makes sense that she would search out help in that area of her life which was so out of her control. [Weird that she doesn't have a job in that field.]

Anyway, BM to this day quotes Freud. I always thought he was a quack. I Googled it and came across this interesting article online. The descriptors seem to match very closely to BMs… very interesting. So she quotes Freud to youngest SS because he has traits similar to hers. You spot it, you got it (relative to character traits). Monkey see monkey do in my book. Anyway here's the article if anyone is interested: http://www.scienceforums.net/topic/51419-freud-liar-and-fraud/

Hopefully I don't insult any of my fellow psych majors out here in StepTalk land; not my intent. I love the study of the mind, but more so how it relates to neuroscience. I personally believe that our youth can shape our early development, but it's only the foundation of our character. With proper thinking, in adulthood, the mind can be retraining to incorporate healthier thoughts.

Not thoughts that encourage manipulation which BM is a master of. She's very clever & cunning. Always makes what she wants seem like a benefit to you. Know the type?

I don't think Frued's theories have much weight in modern pyschology especially in childhood development. Erik Erikson was my most fav to study. I took my baby, 8 months, to babytime at the library to socialize with other babies. Se is definitely very trusting. All the other babies just sat in their parent's laps and mine was all over the place saying hi to every baby and every parent. She would ask strange men to hold her by holding her up arms. I must be doing something right as she definitely seems to feel safe and secure in the world and very trusting!

So 2 thumbs down on Freud. Yikes. Will be interesting conversation at home if youngest SS brings up Freud again.
