BM has such a hard life! Wahwahwah

My husband has severe schizophrenia but loves his children dearly. He spends time with them when they are here and calls them often. He was in a transitional home for two years. Not once did the BM bring the children to visit him (they are 11 and 13). After we met, we moved two hours south of where we lived so he could go outside. He can't go outside in the city due to his paranoid schizophrenia. Court papers show joint custody and reasonable visitation. BM states he has to meet her 4 hours away, one way to pick up the children, which is a 8 hour trip there and back. We decided to start picking up the boys only during major holidays so we can have them for a week or two at a time. BM says she will only meet us half-way if we pay her child support on a regular basis. She knows she can't get child support through the court because he is on SSI. i just started working and we can't afford CS at this time. Although, we pay 100.00 monthly when we can. The stress of not seeing his kids on a regular basis, having to drive 8 hours at a time and dealing with her yelling and putting a guilt trip on him is causing his mental illness to go haywire at times. She doesn't want to deal with me because she knows she can manipulate him but not me. What do we do without going back to court? I've thought about a mental health advocate and/or a Parenting Plan coordinator. Has anyone used these tools? HELP :jawdrop:

That depends on the state. BM2 is on SSI and therefore DH gets no CS from her because it isn't considered income in our state.

I'm not sure if they are receiving SSI benefits or not. We will have to call the SSA. Good point. Thanks for bringing it up. I'll check on it.
