Child support question- inheritance

newstepmomof3's picture

My fiancé's father recently passed away. He will inherit a certain amount through the will. I believe life insurance policy. Right now he is paying child support for his three children. We live in Pennsylvania. So do his children and ex wife. I've seen articles that say he'll owe- that it's income. And others that say only what he "invests" will be income. Does anyone here know what we should expect?

I would advise your H to check with his attorney. They're the only one that can answer this question for you.

Life insurance is not considered income in PA. Smile

You might want to check with an attorney if he receives anything else though.

Neither DH nor BM had any claim to the money they each inherited from their respective parents. Inheritance was not considered income.
The state their divorce was in is New York.

I'm really hoping most of you are correct. We've already discussed putting some aside for savings and with a quarter setting up small college accounts for each child but if his ex gets his hands on any of it it'll be spent on herself because that's how she rolls.

I am reading somewhere that investments ARE considered for CS in PA so he prolly wouldn't wanna buy property with it.

i feel like whenever BM's hear about extra money they will go after it no matter what. court/judge will give them whatever they think is "fair".

best bet is to keep quiet about the money and dont tell anyone you got it or how much.
