Poll Time....skids names? like love etc?

StepLady's picture

What I am wondering is a few things regarding names.....do any of yall have kids with the same names as skids? How do you handle that? Do any of you have kids vs skids with similar sounding names? Do any of you love the names your skids have and were planning to name future kids those names? Do any of you have skids with names that are just awful to you? Do your skids have trendy names while your own have classics? I will be vague as I always am, so no need to share the family roster, just generally wondering.

All my skids have normal names except for the oldest ss. He was adopted by DH so he had no hand in the name, while it is a little "out there", it has now grown on me and it def suits him, he is very unique boy. My dd has a name that ends with an "E" sound, long I guess it would be called and so does sd. I would have not ever picked SD name but it was a play on BM2's sister name. It is not an ugly name at all, just not my cup of tea. And it is spelled wrong, in my opinion but I guess that BM2's sister has her name spelled wrong or "differently" as well.

Pilgrim Soul's picture

BM took her own name three times and modified it a bit to create names for the three skids. For the youngest I think she gave up on the idea that the childs name needs to be different from her own and only changed one letter so that it sounds pretty much the same.

I think she was trying to say that they were her property and DH had no claim. It worked. My younger sons name is similar to SS name.
DH used to confuse them, but pas helped him stop doing that.

momandmore's picture

BM2 did this with YSD. If you take the 3 middle letters out of SD's name, you have .... BM's name.

GhostWhoCooksDinner's picture

I had an ex whose BM named their kids after herself. Apparently he had no say. Her name was Melanie, and the daughters were Melody and Lanie. Barf.

Pilgrim Soul's picture

Barf is right. I'm surprised this is obviously so common. I have seen it before where the parents give all kids names beginning with the same letter, but not tied to the parents own names. I would feel embarrassed if I had 3 versions of " me " out there but BM must relish it.
If she were to be called Janet the skids would be Janice, Jacob and Jeannette. DHs name could be William in this scenario. You get the picture. They are her ego extensions.

Yeah, I used to really like SS16's first name until I associated it with him! Ruined it for me totally.

luchay's picture

Really? LMAO - I HATE your SD's name!

Not keen on SD14's name. SS11's name is a shortened version of a three syllable name - like "Jon - Jonathon" I always had the "proper" version of his name on my boys list, but ss is just the first syllable. Then his middle name is John - so his name is --N John and it just sounds weird to me.

If I had ever used that name he would have been called the shortened version (so SS's name) anyway, but I like the whole name.... LMAO I don't know how much sense I am making....

My dd's all have pretty traditional "English" names and I am all about making it as easy as possible for the kid. The spelling is all traditional, and with dd22 there are a few variations on the spelling that are still traditional. So we told everyone what her name was (without writing it anywhere LOL) and then waited until all the cards came in, and did a poll on what the most common spelling was, and that's what we went with!!!

Rags's picture

My Skid (SS-22) has the same boy name as seemingly every other 19-23yo in the country. My bride promised one of her classmates (who she can't remember the name of) that she would name the kid the name he has. It has no significance other than my wife and her forgetable friend liked it. I am fine with it though it is a bit common for my liking. When we were in a public setting with lots of kids and we would call for Skid the crowd of kids would grow quiet and half the boys would look at us wondering who the hell we were and why we were calling them.

The three younger also out of wedlock spermidiot spawned half sibs have very enthically specific and sounding names. The youngest two of the four are biracial and #2 and #1 (my Skid)are not. But, the Sperm Idiot has had the ambition to be a Crip or a Blood since he was in his teens and insisted that his kids have approproate Crip or Blood names. Which is odd considering he looks like Opie Cunningham and has no African genetic material in him. My wife would have none of that crap and named the Skid what she wanted to name him rather than what the Sperm Idiot wanted. So my Skid has the same name as nearly his entire generation of boys has but he did avoid being saddled with a name that would have been better suited for a resident of a prison cell block. My SS's half sister (Sperm Idiot Spawn #2) has a name that most people do not find fits her demographic. This has caused some issues for her over the years and she has called my SS in tears periodically because of it. He has calmed her and guided her to make the name her own by succeeeding.

So far, his guidance and her effort appear to be working. Except for her soon to be sentenced drug dealer boy friend who apparently based on the tear filled calls to my Skid she cannot live without.

I was named after both of my grandfathers. Fortunately my mom would not use her dad's first name so my middle name is his middle name. My grandfather's first name was extremely odd and he never went by that or his middle name. He had an unrelated nick name that he used. My brother's name is just because my dad likes it. My late youngest brother is named after my dad's favorite uncle and his middle name is my dad's first name. Nothing overly unusual in the Rags clan as far as names are concerned.

All of the girls in my wife's clan share the same initials. The boys also share the same initials though the boy's and girls initials are different. Kind of like the Duggers only short a dozen and half or so kids.

All of the names in the Rags clan and my IL clan seem to fit and I like them fine. Not that anyone in either clan asked me.

I never liked my SD's name. Not even before I met her. It's a name that has always rubbed me wrong for whatever reason. It's just one of those things. Plus, my SD12's name is the same name of a kid who used to bully me in elementary school. Which makes sense, because SD has continued the tradition of making my life as miserable as possible. :O

At least it's not the same as BM. I couldn't handle it if SD's name was the same as BM's so thank goodness for very small things.

Gwynnafaye's picture

BM has a 2-part last name. That is my SS's first and middle name with his father's last name. Good thing his mother didn't try to change his last name to hers. He would have the same name twice.

wth was I thinking's picture

OSD and I have the same name. I'm not thrilled about that most of the time, but it makes me smile a little to think BM has to say it in her home all the time. }:)

QueenBeau's picture

SD has a made up name spelled stupidly. You always have to say it 2 or 3 times for someone & then spell it. Her middle name is a stripper name & not really a name, just a word turned into a name. Also, BM wanted part of her last name in SD's last name. Instead of hyphenating, she gave her a stupid name. Like lets say DH's last name were (hypothetically) Johnson and hers were Clint... SD's last name legally is CJohnson but at school & everywhere but social security office & birth certificate she goes by Johnson. She actually doesn't know her last name is so fudged up. She will find out when she goes to get her license I guess.

My stepsons have very common names. I wouldn't have chosen them but they are ok. My kids have very classic names. My husband and bm's fiancé have the same name though, which is interesting!

GhostWhoCooksDinner's picture

Oh, the phonetic shit drives me crazy! I know a little girl named "Dallas" but it's spelled "Daellesse." UGH!

BarkAtTheMoon's picture

SD13 who wants to be a boy has the same name you would see on a Christmas ornament. Take your pick of Faith, Joy or Hope. None work in her favor. }:)

Skids have normal names but they start with the same letter. DH says BM had a "thing" about that. Her new child's name doesn't start with the same letter so I guess her "thing" was over after skids were born. SS's name is average. SD's name is not that common but not unusual. My name starts with the same letter as BM's.

As far as names go, just don't ever call me BM's name.

Maxwell09's picture

SS is named after DH, and I have a female version of their name. BM is at an em passé of hating that people think our "family" is cute like that and still smug that SHE is the one that gave DH a Junior and I didnt. Oh well it doesn't bother me because I would have never agreed to naming my firstborn after DH anyway so he should grateful he knocked up someone else first.

But even though BM named SS after DH she refuses to call him by that name. He goes by a non-related nickname that she likes instead. Sometimes when BM irritates me, DH will joke that I should also name our baby after him just because we all know how high she holds herself when it comes to giving DH "the jr he's always wanted" gag. I'll never be THAT irritated!

Tuff Noogies's picture

dumbass named oss w/ her maiden last name. poor kid has to correct people cuz it's very similar to a perfectly normal first name.

yss has the same name as the guy she was screwing around with while married to my dh. after they divorced she married him.

unluckytwin's picture

I have no feelings one way or the other about SD's name, BUT, I avoid saying it at all costs. "The child," "your child," "the kid." It is what it is.

dood's picture

My SS14 is named after his father... and like unluckytwin, I don't really use it much... His estranged daughter has a sort of unusual name but this kid is a scank like her mother... we don't see or speak to her for about a year now after she told her father to "go fck yourself" as she was asking him for money for the last time. Ba-bye...

BM named SD8 after a popular Disney star at the time. She's such a grown up! The character name thank god because now the child star is the wrecking ball. Lol.

ChiefGrownup's picture

Too funny, I can hear her in my head. "Wreeeeeeee-cking ball!" Hope your sd doesn't turn out like her.

momandmore's picture

I know.. Me too! She watches the reruns of the Disney show, she still has no clue the catastrophe side is the same person. Lol.

SD9 and SD4 have the most common names, to the point where there are at least four kids in each of their classes with the same name as them, and then another four kids who have the same name as their sister. Lol. It's like BM said, "I can't think of anything to name our kids. Read me the first five names on the top ten baby name list for this year and I'll pick one of those."

The names really are okay - they are at least spelled correctly, which I appreciate and wonder how that happened as BM might be illiterate - but they are annoyingly common names. FDH let BM chose and she said she'd always loved these names and FDH didn't argue with BM.

SS and BD have the same name. It is a unisex name that was traditionally a male name but over the last 50 years or so has become more of a girl name. He's the only boy I've ever met with the name. Everyone has adapted to "big *insert name" and "little *insert name". SS and BD think it's cute and nobody minds. The only problem is when the name is called out in general and they both answer.

I don't like any of my other skids names but my older skids rock so the names don't bother me. YSD to BM2 I can't stand her name. It's a common name but the full length name is pretty but the abbreviated form of it they use is ugly and I never call her that. I might have liked it more if SD wasn't so wretched.

FUNNY! DS15 and SS14 have the same name only one letter is different.
There was alot of confusion when calling them or talking about them.
We started to call DS15s by his middle name. He likes it much better, less confusion, plus his name is REALLY popular for his age and he goes to school with like 50 other kids with the same name.
This works better for him and he takes great pride in it because it is his grandfathers middle name as well.
He now even gets mail addressed in him middle name, all his friends from school call him by his middle name, it has caught on and I like it too. Smile

3? WTF

furkidsforme's picture

BM is total white trash and tried to give her kids "classy" names by trying to make them fancier than they were. Think Kimberly, but spelled Kaimberleigh. It's absurd. And no one is fooled.

Both of my SDs (different BMs, oldest SD is estranged) have names that COULD be stripper names but not as obvious as say, Candy or Cinnamon. DH did not pick either name, he would have picked something more traditional.

They are okay, I guess, but not names I would have picked, had I wanted kids. Which I didn't.

zerostepdrama's picture

SS is a Jr. Which everyone in his family calls him Jr. But his friends call him by his first name. I dont like him being a Jr and my DH a Sr because SS is a fuck off at times and I dont want any courts or legal issues getting the 2 of them confused.

OSD and MSD have "normal" names but both are spelled jacked up. MSD's full name together (and especially how her first name is spelled) is a TRUE stripper name. OSD gave her daughter a pretty name but spells it all jacked up and its AWFUL. Makes the name so ugly.

YSD has a unqiue first name. Its stupid.

zerostepdrama's picture

When people have multiple kids I feel like all the names should go together. With the skids I feel that YSD's name is so different from the other 3 kids names. It annoys me. LOL.

Example:

Sam, Ben, Claire. (all go together)

Hunter, Wyatt, Jackson (all go together)

John, Princess, Madison, Santino

LOL

BioHo's names:

Oldest daughter (not DH's): Unusual, uncommon first name. Middle name is BioHo's mother's name which is very old-fashioned.
SD18: Unusual, uncommon first name. DH picked uncommon, old-fashioned middle name.
PrincASS15: First name is very common and the name of DH's deceased brother. BioHo picked middle name (VERY common) and that's what he is called.
PigPen12 (not DH's): First name is BioHo's farter's name (very old-fashioned). Middle name is a last name and that's what he is called. It would be a first name but has an 's' on the end so people are always calling him incorrectly thinking the 's' is a mistake. Example: Johns, but people think the name is really John.
Spawn7 (not DH's): Totally weird, made-up first name. Totally weird, made-up middle name. People are always mispronouncing her first name and EVERYONE has to be told how to spell the dang thing.

I would not have named any kid by any of these names, but would have certainly respected DH's choice of naming one after his deceased brother AND calling the kid by that name.

I always hated SD's name. It's a stripper/whore name from the movies...

it's hard sounding and irks me everytime i hear it. Particularly when my MIL says it- she extendssssssssssssssssssssssss the name. Drives me batty.

SMLIFESUCKS's picture

My bio kids - son has a traditional bible first name, exh's middle name for his middle name
bio daughter - has a common first name, and common middle name but exh named her middle name after a school crush ( I did not know it)

OUR DD - Irish first name, unusual middle name but spelled like something common. No one can pronounce her first name correctly. LOL (DH has irish decent) Our last name is Irish just spelled more American if you will.

SD's 11 has the same first name as my bio daughter spelling and all, her middle name is my middle name (asked dh about this, said BM Jabba the slut, just picked it, no one in her family has it) It is an old traditional name.

SD9 first name is the first name of a well known stripper, dh picked it yuck, spelled the same, her middle name is very common and put the two together she sounds like a backwoods stripper LOL

SS16 has a very plain, common first name and a family middle name. ExSS10 has a very unusual, uniquely spelled name. Very strange set of name for brothers.

Think something like Thomas John and Zaxxon Blade. Or Michael James and Xavitar Pistol. They just don't go together.

Someone once called ExSS10's very unusual name in a store once, and I almost went diving under the clothing racks! Wasn't him though. I was surprised that another kid had that name.
