Has the storm of the century hit? We were supposed to get two feet overnight, and woke up to nothing.

It did not materialize where I'm at (Hudson Valley). NYC has been spared. Enjoy the snow day... The much less snow than expected day!

We did get some snow to the north of NYC, I am not sure how much, may be up to 20 cm, but nothing of historical proportions. The storm veered to the east and spared the city. Thank god! We were worried about losing power when the temperature is around -5 C.

The weather channel must be trying to drum up business with Polar Vortex, and snowmaggeddon monikers. Advertisers are probably less interested in winter as usual. Weather needs to be sexy and a little scary to sell.

My niece's 2bDH is out in Boston (going to school). Born and raised in Birmingham AL, poor guy thinks he's landed in hell right now. He's not use to winter and he's never experienced anything like a real snow storm. He was here in Illinois over the holidays and thought six inches of snow was fun. Between the winds and snow in Boston right now, he's rapidly changed his mind, We call him our little Southern gentleman, we had to teach him how to shovel snow Biggrin

I know, right? A foot or two of snow was NORMAL. I walked my ass to school- which was OPEN- in it. (Though not uphill both ways- LOL! I'm not that old!) These days, school closes if snow is even suspected. It's ridiculous.

Polar Vortex. I seriously thought it was a marketing gimmick for winter coats at first!

Near Albany in NY. Not so much as a snowflake here. They were saying 8-12 inches. The little kiddies are not happy. They were expecting a snow day. I'm just glad I didn't have to shovel.

I'm in central NJ. Not nearly as bad as they predicted. It was not a good drive for DH yesterday (he drives to train, then takes train to work). He said NJ Transit will be shut down until Thursday, regardless that the snow isn't as bad.

We got nothing overnight, but it has been snowing all morning. It looks pretty, but isn't going to be the 18" they predicted.

Whenever they say "worst storm ever" or really hype it up, I expect nothing. It was amusing how my entire FB feed this morning were complaints about how poor the forecast was.

My sister lives a bit north of NYC and got 3 inches. My other sister, in Boston, got slammed.

This winter hasn't been nearly as bad for us as last year. We had a green Christmas Again, and a green Christmas used to be unheard of here. Global warming is kind of scary.

we had snow down here!!!!
it was just a dusting, but still pretty... and it was cold enough that it stuck around all night so i got to see it still on the porch rails and table this morning.

i miss real snow. *sigh*

but seriously? 1 to 2 feet predicted is the blizzard of the century?? *snorts* that's b.s.
that used to be NORMAL once or twice a year...
