Tempted to shut off the wi-fi this weekend....

It's skid weekend. SD11 and SS12 are good kids. But all SS12 does all weekend long is sit and text on his iPod. It's not an iPhone so he has to have a wi-fi connection for it to work. I'm tempted to shut the darn thing off this weekend. I guess I really shouldn't care what he does.. he's not my kid but I get sick of seeing him in that same spot on the couch all weekend. Plus I have a feeling that he texts BM over and over and over again. We don't really have too many problems with her anymore... no nightmares compared to what others on here post about.

People are so addicted to their devices. I know I probably spend too much time on mine as well.

I have wanted to do this so many times. I pay for the wi-fi. Skids were using it not only for their ipod/iphone/xbox but they were also using it to communicate with BM. Eff that.

I get your point about the electronic addictions too. That does get pretty annoying.

Just do it and make the kid get some fresh air! lol. Ss 6 hasn't gotten to that age yet so I haven't dealt with this yet however my brother is who is 14 is ADDICTED to his iphone and it drives me crazy. When he comes over I make him get off of the phone and talk with me. haha.

Yep, people are way too into their devies... aannnnnd I'm def of them! ::hangs head in shame:: lol. I have to force myself to get off of my phone... it's SO entertaining though!!!

I can agree with you regarding being annoyed at seeing a skid sit there and stare at a screen for hours. SD6 spends most of her time on the iPad when she visits us. It's ridiculous. I will not allow my DD to do that. When I was growing up, we were limited to a 1/2 hour on the computer every day.

Even my 3 year old spends time on the computer each day playing ABC Mouse.com.

We too have done this, we call it an "unplugged" weekend, it was horrible...lol
The children were FORCED! to spend time together...playing...OUTSIDE! ahhhhh! lol

They loved it, they wore off all there energy, ran around, played pretend games and rode their bikes...and at night they would come in and sit on the living room floor with us and play card and board games...we all loved it!

I would highly recommend it

I change the password on the router pretty regularly. One of my kids was using his ipad to stream Netflix in his room at night. It was fine when he was watching a couple of episodes a week, but he streamed an entire season of one show overnight and used up most of the wifi for the whole house for a month. We're in Alaska. There isn't an unlimited wifi plan.

So now I have it on lockdown. They can come have me sign them in and out, and that's it. Also, the skids' cellphones have parental controls, and they aren't allowed to text their BMs. Communication takes place on the home phone only. None of this subversive crap in my house.
