Randomly cruising craigslist and I found our dream house.

A 6 bedroom historical Victorian manor house. That just happens to qualify as a land mark, and the owner's lawyer offered it to us with the caveat we turn it into a B&B, at 20,000 under the asking price, so it won't be torn down by the city and used for an apartment complex.

These two spinster sisters are the last generation of the family that has owned it since 1905, and they are too elderly to maintain the property. They specifically want to sell it to a young family with carpentry experience, so the new owners can keep the house original.

We are going to the bank tomorrow.

PRAY FOR US!!!!!

Well there is the main manor house and a servants quarters/carriage house. The plan would be to live in the big house during renovations and then turn the smaller house into our main residence after the big house is reopened.

Both houses are actually livable and up to code, and were lived in up to 30 days ago, so all the renovation would be to have it back to looking original. Like installing wood burning stoves that would actually be fitted to be ambient space heaters. Mostly remodeling.

We want to turn the big house into a business, that way if it is a business, what with house the other properties have turned commercial (old Victorians changed to doctor's offices and such), we would be able to have it zoned as commercial also, and the city wouldn't be able to take it under imminent domain laws.

Besides all that safety wise, the skids and us would live in the smaller house during the peak seasons.

Also have thought about just turning it into a museum/tea house/wedding venue and not a B&B. The lawyer/family really just don't want it to be torn down, thus the need to have it commercially zoned.

We thought about and actually went and looked at quite a few. We haven't actually purchased one yet and then I found this today while look for land to put a mobile home on. It just seemed like serendipity or kizmit, so I sent the link out to FDH and he jumped on it.

If this doesn't work, we'll go back to the old plan.

I love B&B's. Hard work, but what a great way to make a living and meet lots of people. I think it is a great way to save history. Good luck. We stay at B&B's all the time and our favorite ones are where we don't have to have Breakfast with strangers and they bring it to you...Just a hint!
