Depositions

my future SD's mom had myself and dad go through a deposition, I feel like I have been run over by a truck. 5 hours of basically making me feel I am the most horrible human being in the world. Making me question my parenting skills, my thoughts and what we are doing concerning SD.
Just looking for anyone who has had similar experiences and a place to vent about it.

Depositions are unique wherein the opposing lawyer can ask any question, make any statement, and insinuate you should be in a insane asylum. Most of it is never heard in court and the attorney is primarily trying to scare you so much you'll cringe when you actually see him in court.

Of course your attorney can do the same to the BM if you're willing to spend the money.

It's one of the reasons attorneys are hated so much.

Apparently my love of horror movies and putting up a picture on FB of me dressed as a vampire for a Halloween costume contest is proof positive from the opposing lawyer that I am an unfit parent who is utterly incapable of caring for a child.

Lawyer was just trying to make me flustered. It didn't work. Our lawyer laughed afterwards and said she loved my responses because I sounded exactly like "Data" from Star Trek.

When I got done i felt like I wanted to crawl into a hole, the big focus was my SD texts me ,dad and i always tell her we are here whenever you need us,so she reaches out via texts.I provided all the texts over the past year, when they looked at the stack of printed out texts, they made comments of how I was being inappropriate, this is horrendous, how disgusting, etc etc. my head was spinning, and let me just say 90% of those texts are her sending me silly quotes, pics smiley faces, she is 14.the other 10% are about her mom being " cray cray", words she uses to describe her mom. And our thinking was, better texting us then falling into sexting or hiding things, or whatever else teens do. They made me seem like a disgusting person for texting to a 14 year old.

I'm a lawyer. There's no holds barred in depositions. Nearly anything goes.

I'm so sorry. Sounds like you have a particularly nasty member of the bar. Don't spend one more second thinking about it.

The worst part was being asked a yes/ no question without explanation. To sit there and really think about every signal thing you have done over your life, to second guess your actions. I have told my kids don't allow people to have control over you to make you feel something you aren't , and I did that, I allowed them to make me doubt myself, it's almost like I feel violated.

I thank each and every one for sharing with me, sometimes it helps not to feel alone. To see others have gone through it and made it out the other side really helps. Thank you
