As most of you probably already know, a major ice storm hit the mid-west this past week. The news is saying it was the worst ice storm in over 29 years. The storm caused wide spread power outages in Missouri and Illinois. The thick blanket of ice brought a lot of trees down which caused a lot of property damage as well.
Luckly our home was spared from any major problems. We lost power for about 4 hours last Friday but we are still without cable TV, Internet access and telephone. For some of the weekend we couldn't even make cellular calls because the cell towers froze up which reduced their coverage enough to cut us off. I haven't been able to check e-mail or check on this site.
The power outages hit the ISP that we co-locate the server which Step Talk is hosted on. When the server went down it caused some system corruption that prevented the server from coming back online after the power came back on. We were able to correct the data corruption and get the server back online Saturday night. We're just glad we were able to get Step Talk back online so quickly. It could have been a lot worse.
As soon as we save up enough money we'll be replacing the current server and uniterruptable power supply (UPS) with a more robust server and a UPS that can properly shut down the server in the event of a prolonged power outage. Let us know if you notice any problems with the site. So far we have found none.
BTW, my husband is posting this message for me from his work since we still don't have Internet access.
